black and white aztec crop top

Aztec prints are amongst the many trends of today so I was excited when I found this print crop top from Akira. I paired it with high-waisted pants which are a fun look on a weekend when you’re headed out with the girls. I love the black and white paired with a bright red lipstick and gold accessories. I have also worn this top with a peach high waisted skirt and gold flats to a street festival and it went together really well. I would love to find a pair of darker colored palazzo pants to wear this with topped with a blazer for the Fall.

love your heart out- purple heart nails

I felt inspired by hearts this week, and with the difficult week the world has had, it’s a nice little reminder to love your heart out.

For this look, I used Sinful Colors for both shades. ‘Dream On’ and the white is ‘Snow Me White’. The nail brush is from Sally’s Beauty Supply.

I like wearing fun prints on white like this romper I recently bought from Akira. Anything with pockets seal the deal for me. I paired it with my open toe black booties and my oversized yellow handbag to give it a pop of color and a coral lipstick to top it off. What’s also great about this print is that I can wear it into the Fall with dark tights, boots, a navy blue boyfriend blazer and a dark red lipstick. Typing that just got me excited for Fall for about 2 seconds until the flashback of last year’s polar vortex creeped in. Summer, don’t leave us!

find love in everything

We were walking around the neighborhood this weekend after brunch at the Bongo Room in Wicker Park and passed by some deserted property and I saw this on the side of the building. Love is always present, even in its simplest form.

pool essentials- what’s a must

I haven’t gone to the pool or the beach nearly enough this Summer. But when I get the chance, here is a list of what comes with me!

beach Must-havesBeach essentialsI like to paint my nails while I’m soaking up my Vitamin D. 1) Deborah Lippman ‘Do The Mermaid’ was my pick as I felt it was fitting.

Deborah Lippman SUNSCREENS! 2) Broad spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 50 for the body. I like the sport sunscreens since they are water/sweat resistant, non-greasy and fragrance free. For the face, I usually double up with something like 3) Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Sunscreen SPF 30 and 4) Origins VitaZing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer SPF 15. It’s a sheer tint release moisturizer that gives a hint of color and radiance to even out my skin tone so I don’t need to wear any foundation. Then I finish with a bronzing powder. 5) Estee Lauder’s Bronze Goddess Powder Bronzer compact to give my face a healthy sun-kissed glow.

Beach essentialsbeach essentialsAnd I can’t forget to protect my lips!! 6) MAC’s lip conditioner SPF 15 that I am obsessed with. This conditions, hydrates and protects my lips so they don’t get dry and chapped while I’m out in the sun all day. 7) MAC lipstick in ‘Hue’, a pale pink shade to top it off.

beach essentials8) AERIN Rose Hand and Body Cream to ensure my hands don’t dry up which leaves my hands silky and smooth with a romantic, light rose scent.

beach essentialsOf course while I’m waiting for my nails to dry, 9) Glamour and 10) Cosmo are my go-to magazines to flip through.

beach essentials11) My girlfriends. The most important essential of all that you can almost forget the rest! Almost.

don’t miss the boat! nautical striped dress

It has been a pretty cool Summer, especially in Chicago. With limited days left before Fall is upon us, it’s time to give those Summer dresses their last chance to soak up the sun. I don’t like to play favorites with my dresses (yes, I do) but I will say that this particular dress makes me feel happy, light and absolutely in love.

Stripes need a pop of color so I’m happy this dress has taken care of that for me with the neon orange back and straps. I like to pair this with my yellow oversized B. Makowsky handbag and nude platform open toe booties.

high waisted palazzo pants

I’m kind of short so when I can find pants that don’t sweep the streets, I’m happy. When I found high waisted palazzo pants that fit, I was thrilled! They may not actually be high waisted but I hiked them up high enough to fit me in a pair of my highest heels. I wear these to work paired with a dressy top tucked in and a crop blazer. But when I’m out for dinner with girlfriends, I like to pair it with a girly crop top like this lace racerback crop tank.

romper rage- dress it up/dress it down

I am a romper wearing type of girl. Can’t get enough of them. Especially when I’m feeling lazy and don’t feel like piecing together an outfit but am tired of wearing a dress. It’s the perfect alternative, and my personal favorite. Another great thing about them; easy to dress up or dress down. I like pieces I can wear throughout my day without having to change a whole lot.

Dress it up: Classic black and white are enough to dress up any outfit. Pair it with hints of gold accessories and a pop of that lip:)

simple bubble gum nails

bubble gum pink nails Color tipped nails are my staple, particularly with white as my base color for the summer. They’re fun and simple to do, and they make the perfect accessory to any outfit. I have been searching for the perfect bubble gum pink nail polish that stays on for a while now and think I may have found a contender. It’s ‘Carnival Cotton Candy’ by Nicole by O.P.I, Carrie Underwood’s nail lacquer collection. It’s perfectly opaque, enough for me to do the tips in one clean line across. The colors are true to what you see when you’re looking at the bottle. I’ll definitely be trying more colors. I bought mine at my local CVS.True White Nail PolishThe white is my go-to favorite, ‘blanc’ by essie. It’s opaque with two coats and gives a true white finish. ‘Snow Me White’ by Sinful Colors is another great option. It’s opaque enough with one coat for nail art purposes.Silver Nail PolishThe silver on my love finger is ‘Strappy Sandals’ by Clinique. I was given this and I absolutely love it. It’s pretty opaque for a shimmery nail enamel which is nice and not always easy to find.bubble gum pink nails Pink lipstick and lipglossI paired this look with Pure Color Envy lipstick in ‘Infamous’ by Estee Lauder. The perfect shade to go with my bubble gum nails and gives my lips a hydrated, creamy feel with the right pop of color. I topped them off with limited edition ‘Poppy‘ lipsgloss by AERIN.

dressy casual does exist!

Ever have someone tell you that it’s going to be ‘dressy casual’ and you have no idea what that even means? Well, it means that you have to find an outfit that you won’t feel underdressed OR overdressed in. They do exist, I promise. And not just in the form of skinny jeans, a dressy top and heels (I do love that look btw). Here is my favorite take on summertime ‘dressy casual’.

summer dressy casual

grey, white and gold…YES

It works for patio brunches on the weekends, rooftop dinners on a weeknight or shopping around wicker park if you can stand the heels (high heels high hopes, ladies!)chic dressy casual fashion

Why does it work? Pairing a cotton skirt with a silk or light polyester top dresses it down and vice versa.
